WHERE WE CAME FROM
& WHERE WE ARE GOING

The casino that populates Las Vegas' downtown and famous Vegas Strip has always influenced our local community. So it is no surprise that the city and its resort attraction influenced our dance community; in the 1970s, almost every casino had a lounge with small bands playing music and supplying small dance floors for its patrons. In 1980, 's Country Western Dance Halls became the latest draw for vacationers, drawing them in with offers of free drinks, free music, and large dance floors to attract the visiting public.

In the 1990s and 2000, Dance halls made way for upscale clubs with their Disc Jockeys, club music, and disco lights. As more and more people moved to Las Vegas, the city grew from 300,000 to 500,000. Many of these people fill these studios for fun and relaxation, where a few of our founding members broke ranks and banded together.

With the influence of California and the popularity of West Coast Swing dancing grew so popular that it soon spilled over into Las Vegas. West coast swing lessons and instructors popped up. But still, there was only one weekly dance location available, limiting students' ability to practice and enjoy the fruits of their labor. At this point, some of our founding members decided to come up with a solution and opened another dance night for West Coast Swing.

So in the spring of 2016, Michelle Dwyer and some friends created the "Famous Tuesday" dance night at a local restaurant with a small dance floor. Our volunteers provided the music, and the restaurant allowed them to take over the dance floor. In the fall of 2017, the restaurant was closed, so "Famous Tuesday" moved to a new location, and a new night and name "Famous Friday" was born. We rented the studio space in the Dance Studio building, and our volunteers helped watch the door, collected the money, provided the music, and lined up teachers for workshops before the dance.

Famous Friday, the home for West Coast Swing

In the spring of 2020, Famous Friday needed more space and moved to a temporary location with a bigger room at another Dance Studio with the help of volunteers. In the spring of 2021, our dance had to find another venue because the owners sold the dance studio. We moved it to the main ballroom of a more prominent Dance Center where our numbers grew. We were there until 2023, and soon both the Dance Center and our club grew large enough to warrant a new location, where we moved with the Dance Center to our current location on Rainbow Blvd, the main drag of the Southwest part of Las Vegas. Now we enjoy providing our dancers with a new and larger facility with even more amenities to serve our west coast swing dancers.

Come dance with us! We would love to share our Famous Friday dance home for West Coast Swing with you!
